The Housing Committee was formed in order to facilitate community empowerment regarding housing concerns in our area. This can include issues such as renter’s rights, zoning changes, affordable home ownership, as well as low & mixed income housing. We strive to improve discussing and analysis on this issue, and using our shared knowledge to improve education surrounding housing. We will advocate on members behalf, amplifying community voices and providing them with representation. You may read our charter, which acts as our governing document, at this link
A pressing issue affecting many tenants on Capitol Hill is the increasing prevalence of fraudulent fees levied in addition to rent. Before the Housing Committee was officially organized, the Executive Board of the CHCC called on Mayor Wilson and the City Council to ban RUBS, the most egregious of junk fees. You may learn about this and other rental issues on our Tenant’s Information page
